There are many interesting communities within an easy drive of Ottawa. One that I've passed through many times is Smiths Falls. Some years ago, as part of a longer trip, a friend and I stopped and photographed some of its many sights. We've long remembered that trip, so I was very happy when my friend suggested that we make a return visit. Smiths Falls is an easily walkable town with interesting storefronts and historic buildings. The Rideau River and associated canal system bisect the town and present many photo opportunities. A particular, must-photograph, feature is the historic Scherzer Rolling Lift Railway Bridge. It was built in 1914 and ceased operation in 1984. One thing I didn't expect to see in town was a moose, but there it was in the wetland across from the bridge. Too bad I didn't have a long lens to get a decent photo to include here.
