Upper Canada Village
I've visited Upper Canada Village (UCV) many times but it's been five years since my last visit. That's largely due to the pandemic of course. So I was quite enthusiastic when a friend suggested this as a road trip. For those who aren't familiar with it, UCV depicts life in a rural English Canadian village circa 1866. Located near Morrisburg, Ontario, the village contains over forty historical buildings. Included are a functioning sawmill, farms, trades workshops, and a variety of homes. These are staffed with reenactors dressed in replica costumes of the period. Nearby, is the Battle of Crysler's Farm National Historic Site. This is a beautiful park with a commemorative monument dedicated to one of the decisive battles of the War of 1812. A miniature train running between UCV and the Historic Site is a popular ride for visitors. We spent the better part of the day exploring the village and the adjacent battle site park. Hopefully, as we start to move past the pandemic, I'll visit again soon.
