Iron Butt
After a 6 1/2-year hiatus, the Urban Group of the RA Photo Club organized an Iron Butt outing. "Iron butt" is a motorcycling term, where it refers to a long-distance (and endurance-testing) excursion. Our outings aren't so lengthy or exhausting, so we've appropriated the term tongue-in-cheek. The idea is for photographers to group themselves into cars, spend the day photographing, and meet for a meal at a chosen location. Each car follows its own route, the more obscure the better, and looks for interesting photos. The destination for this year's Iron Butt was a restaurant in Smith's Falls. A good friend and I decided to form a group. Our route wasn't especially out of the way. We went first to Carleton Place, then proceeded south with a stop in Franktown, and lastly explored Smith's Falls. The outing was very well attended, with over 20 club members participating. Now that the pandemic seems to be over, I'm hoping that the club resumes holding an Iron Butt outing each year.
