Bruce Pit
Bruce Pit is part of the National Capital Commission Greenbelt. It is located in western Ottawa close to Highway 416. The "pit" refers to a disused sand pit that is now a pond that provides a habitat for birds and other wildlife. Adjacent to this is a 3.2 km loop trail and many side trails through the forest. There is also a fenced dog run that many residents enjoy with their pets. The Nature Group of the RA Photo Club held an outing to these trails to photograph mushrooms and other fungi. One of our members discovered these in abundance while out with her dog. While I've long known about Bruce Pit, this was my first visit. The day of the outing was gorgeous. And the report of plenty of fungi was quite correct. I enjoyed myself so much that I far overstayed the planned time for the outing. It was a great day to be out in the forest.
