Museum of History
The Ottawa area has many fantastic museums and galleries. These are great places to visit, and in several cases are also great venues for photography. One of my favorites is the Museum of History (formerly Civilization), across the river in Gatineau. The museum is mainly devoted to the heritage of Canada. Its exhibits detail Canada's indigenous peoples, the waves of immigration from Europe and elsewhere, and major events through to the present day. But equally appealing, the architecture of the building is amazing and a joy to photograph. I spend as much time looking at the walls and ceilings as the exhibits when I visit. A friend and I spent a day going through almost the entire museum. We looked at all the exhibits and took a lot of photographs. I found the exhibits relating to the indigenous peoples the most photogenic. And of course, I had a glorious time looking for abstract compositions in the architecture.
