My initial tests with my beloved 24-120 mm f/4 Z lens confirmed what my research had suggested: it's not great for infrared. While it's usable with care for lower wavelengths, it has trouble with 720 nm (and above). In essence it's really only good in the 50 or 70 to 120 mm range in that case. Since I now have 720 nm capability, that presented a problem. After more research, I discovered that Nikon released a 28-400 mm f/4-8 Z lens last year that is good for infrared. Not excellent mind you, but probably the best wide-range, mid-range lens available. Well-respected Nikon guru Thom Hogan (https://www.bythom.com) describes it for infrared as "very well may be your lens of choice". So, I bought one. The first thing I did was put it on my camera with the 720 nm filter installed and headed for the Ottawa river. I shot wide, I shot long, I shot towards the bright sun and a bunch of other things on that short walk. I came away pleased. Here are a sample of some of my photos.
