Upper Canada Village

Upper Canada Village

A friend and I wanted to do some shooting together and decided to make a visit to Upper Canada Village, which is just outside of Morrisburg, Ontario.  We had both been there previously, and in my case I've visited several times at different seasons, although not for almost five years. We had a very good day, arriving shortly after opening, and leaving not too much before closing. The village depicts life in the 1860's with a wonderful variety of locations and very skilled and dedicated reenactors. CLICK HERE to see some of my photos from that outing.

Plaisance Park and Falls

Plaisance Park and Falls

Plaisance Park is about an hour's drive from Ottawa on the Quebec side of the Ottawa river towards Montreal. The Nature Group of the RA Photo Club organized an outing there, as well as a side trip to the nearby Plaisance Falls. Although the park had been advertised as especially interesting to birders, I had never been there and wanted to see it, and the falls were only mentioned in passing. While I shot some photos in the park, which has quite a nice boardwalk, it ended up that the falls were where the real excitement was for me. CLICK HERE to see some of my photos from this trip.

Chutes Coulonge

Chutes Coulonge

Fort Coulonge is about an hour and a half drive from Ottawa on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River and the Nature Group of the RA Photo Club organized an outing to the nearby waterfalls in March 2016. These are spectacular falls and excellent to photograph in winter because of the equally spectacular ice formations formed by the spray of water! I felt really inspired by this location and will make a point to visit there again. CLICK HERE to see some of my shots from this outing.

Limerick Forest in Winter

Limerick Forest in Winter

The Friends of Limerick Forest held an Open Doors event on March 6, 2016 that featured hot dogs at the firepit, tobogganing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and other activities for visitors. I came mainly to photograph the forest and had a great time because the weather was mild and the brilliant sunshine threw fascinating shadows throughout the forest. CLICK HERE to see some of my shots from this outing.

Jack Pine Trail

Jack Pine Trail

The Jack Pine Trail is located slightly to the south and west of Ottawa in a large tract of green space managed by the National Capital Commission. In the winter it is frequented by skiers, snowshoers, and the occasional group of photographers. We arrived around 9:00 am and had the place almost all to ourselves until families with children started arriving by about 11:00 am. By then, we were getting ready to leave for our lunch destination at a local restaurant. CLICK HERE to see more of my photos from this outing.
